Instead of the present, the New York Jets need to start looking to the future.
The Jets got throttled by the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday to the tune of a 36-7 final score. That score was less indicative of how bad this game was than the final score last week.
Sam Darnold threw two pick-sixes. The defense couldn’t stop a nosebleed, and they couldn’t get to Philip Rivers all day.
It’s another September where we’re looking ahead to April rather than January with this team.
Trevor Lawrence is not the best option for the New York Jets at quarterback. The combination of Greg Roman as head coach and Justin Fields as quarterback would be the best-case scenario for Gang Green.
Down in Baltimore, Lamar Jackson is what many fans around the league have wanted to see: a mobile quarterback who can also be an efficient passer. Many are saying that Trevor Lawrence is the best prospect at the position since Andrew Luck.
However, the New York Jets should absolutely take Justin Fields over him in the 2021 NFL Draft, especially if Greg Roman is their head coach.
Lets look at what each brings to the table:
- Great arm strength
- Accurate at all levels
- Quick release
- Can make all the NFL throws
- Quality NFL arm strength (similar to Lamar Jackson)
- Much-improved accuracy on the deep ball, great on intermediate and short passes
- Quick release
- Can make all the throws
- DESIGNED RUN THREAT
When it comes to the Jets roster, there really isn’t much proven NFL talent. There are some young and up-and-comers, though.
While Lawrence would be a great addition, a player like Fields would be a better fit for what the Jets need from the quarterback position, especially if Greg Roman is the head coach.
