Jason Huntley, selected in the 5th round of the 2020 NFL Entry Draft by the Detroit Lions, has been claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles.
The move by the Lions was a bit surprising since the rookie was displaying excellent physical tools and marked improvement on a day to day basis during camp. However, the crowded position likely necessitated the move (this was only exacerbated by the signing of Adrian Peterson-insert hyperlink to AP article when available). One could argue that the AP makes Bo Scarbrough expendable and Huntley’s explosiveness would have been a useful skillset to have in a change of pace running back.
That said, as is often the case in the NFL, when you start discussing players that are 3rd down the depth chart, they need to contribute on special teams and Huntley showed poorly in that facet of the game.
